ROME – from www.hollywoodreporter.com – Italian actress and porno star Moana Pozzi, whose mysterious 1994 death has become the stuff of Italian conspiracy theories, may have been an agent for the KGB poisoned to death by radioactive polonium, according to new revelations gathered for a television documentary called Mistero (Mystery).

A veteran of a few mainstream movies but best known for her roles in more than 100 pornographic films, Pozzi was at first reported to have died from liver cancer, aged 33. In the following years, news reports surfaced casting doubt on her official cause of death, and in 2007, her husband, Antonio di Ciesco, claimed that he euthanized Pozzi as she grew weaker, at her request.

In 2006, Pozzi’s brother Simone Pozzi famously revealed he was actually her son. And near the end of her career, Pozzi’s sister, Maria Tamiko Pozzi, became a pornographic actress in her own right, under the name “Baby Pozzi.”

Pozzi’s career was launched by Riccardo Schicchi, the producer famous for his role in the career of Italian porn star-turned-politician Anna Ilona Staller, best known as Cicciolina.

In Mistero, the hypothesis that Pozzi worked for the KGB will be explained, based on newly discovered evidence. The theory is that she was charged with destabilizing the Italian state in the 1980s.

She may have been poisoned with polonium when her usefulness diminished, the documentary claims. The theory is already creating a buzz in Italy.

The program will be aired by Italia Uno, part of the Mediaset empire controlled by billionaire tycoon Silvio Berlusconi, currently running to become Italy’s prime minister for the fourth time.

Pozzi was considered the inspiration for the main character in Davide Ferrario’s 1999 film Guardami (Look at Me), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival that year.

The 2009, a two-part television miniseries exploring Pozzi’s troubled life, Moana, screened in Italy on News Corp’s Sky-Cinema, with the lead role played by Violante Placido.

Placido is the daughter of Italian actor and director Michele Placido and actress Simonetta Stefanelli, best known for her brief role as the unfortunate Sicilian wife of the character played by Al Pacino in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather.
