Comedian Dave Attell in an interview with www.westword.com was asked about his program Dave’s Old Porn which ran on Showtime for two seasons.
He had this to say, “Obviously, there are a lot of people who watch porn, but there are so many people who are into this retro stuff. This was the porn that I grew up on, the ’70s and ’80s stuff, and it’s like, what happened to these guys? Today it seems like there are thousands of porn stars, but back then it was only like fifty people. So we wanted to pay tribute to them.”
Last week I paid tribute by diving into boxes and boxes of vintage Super 8mm loops from the 1960’s and 70’s. A catalogue sheet accompanies this collection, and there are 650 loops in all.
Each is packed in its original box, except maybe for one. This loop is in a film can and is titled “Linda Lovelace.” I’m told this is the famous Lovelace loop featuring her, Eric Edwards and a canine.
What also makes this collection so intriguing is that its original owner was Joseph Barbera of the famous Hanna-Barbera cartoon studio that brought you Huckleberry Hound, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Jonny Quest, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, and The Smurfs, among others.
I’ll have more to say about this collection in days to come, but, the inveterate porn collector should know that this entire stash is up for sale. I can put you in touch with the current owner, but if you’re interested you can contact me at [email protected]
To give you an idea of the value of this collection, some of these loops [though not specifically from this collection which is being offered in toto] have been selling on eBay for $100.
