Penthouse Introduces The First “Caligula” Club In The World

NEW YORK — General Media Communications, Inc., the publisher of Penthouse Magazine announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Opus Entertainment, LLC, to open the first adult nightclub bearing its “Caligula” brand. The 17,000 square foot club will be in Stone Park, a suburb of Chicago, and is slated to open by the end of 2013.

The Caligula brand is taken from the movie of the same name produced in 1980 by Bob Guccione, the founder of Penthouse. The film is based on the infamous Caesar of Rome, Caligula. Caligula was known for his erotic exploits and wild parties, which is a theme that fits well with that of an adult nightclub. The film was remarkable for its marquee team and cast, including writer Gore Vidal and stars such as Malcolm McDowell, Sir John Gielgud, Peter O’Toole, Dame Helen Mirren and Teresa Ann Savoy.

The “Caligula” themed Clubs, will target a more mid-range audience than the upscale “Penthouse” branded clubs, and will be the first “themed” club in the scheme of the Penthouse branded locations. The club will offer a full menu, completely remodeled interior, ample parking and one of the most enthusiastic owners in the Penthouse family, Perry Orr.

Perry Orr, president of Opus Entertainment, said “I opened dozens of successful restaurants and bars in the Chicago area, but this is the most exciting. Being associated with Penthouse and being the very first Caligula Club is a tremendous great experience and our whole team is proud to be part of it.”

Jeff Stoller, Director of Global Club Licensing for the Penthouse and Caligula brands, says “This launch is exciting for us. Caligula Clubs are a perfect extension of our flagship “Penthouse” brand, of adult themed clubs. This Caligula Club will offer customers an exciting and unrivaled experience that we know is great for Chicago, and hopefully more locations to come.
