Susan G. Komen Rejects Donations From Vegas Topless Show

from www.huffingtonpost.com – Though Susan G. Komen for the Cure has run into some fundraising problems lately, the breast cancer charity won’t accept donations from just anybody.

Crazy Girls, Las Vegas’ longest-running adult-cabaret revue on the Strip, recently offered to give Komen a generous donation from its 26th anniversary show, but the organization declined the gesture, FOX5 Vegas reported.

“It just doesn’t fall in line with who we are as an organization,” Southern Nevada’s Executive Director Stephanie Kirby told the news outlet. “There are too many survivors out there who no longer have the body part that is being displayed at a lot of these shows.”

While the topless dancers are now looking for another breast cancer charity to support, they couldn’t help but to feel slighted by Komen’s response.

“It’s really hard not to take it personal. Breast cancer runs in my family as well, so it’s really hurtful,” Victoria, a member of the group, told FOX.

But Crazy Girls probably shouldn’t have much trouble finding a recipient willing to accept its donations.

Living Beyond Breast Cancer Foundation, a national education and support organization, accepted some help from an “adults-only” initiative this summer.

Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club in Vegas got together in July to organize “Flight of the Tatas,” a topless charity skydive that cost $400 to participate and some proceeds were given to the breast cancer organization.

And last winter, Toys for Tots –- a nonprofit that collects Christmas gifts for underprivileged kids –- accepted funds from Platinum Caberet, a gentleman’s club in Arkansas, KHBS reported.

The campaign, dubbed “Toys for Tatas,” invited customers to drop off a gift and would get a lap dance in return, a campaign that the charity had no qualms with.

“As long as it’s done in a legal manner,” John Staples, coordinator for Toys for Tots, told KHBS, “as long as people are bringing us new, unwrapped toys, we don’t get into how they were gathered and what the process was.”
