from www.wsj.com – A former special-education teacher could be sentenced to 45 days in jail for having sex with a 17-year-old student at a school in western New York.

Marla Gurecki-Haskins pleaded guilty in September to endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct, both misdemeanors. The 37-year-old agreed to resign as a teacher at Canandaigua Academy and surrender her New York teacher’s certification.

Her sentencing, scheduled for Friday, had been postponed for two days because of a paperwork delay.

Police maintained Gurecki-Haskins had sexual contact with a 17-year-old boy, and she agreed with prosecutors that there was sufficient evidence to convict her.
