Arizona- A Scottsdale man faces a felony charge that he solicited sex from a 6-year-old girl, offering the girl’s mother up to $5,000 for the act, recently released Gilbert police documents state.

Barry Jordan, 44, pleaded not guilty Feb. 13 to one charge of attempted child prostitution, a Class 3 felony and dangerous crime against children, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said Friday.

“The allegations in this case speak to a larger social problem, which is adults who view children as objects of sexual conquest,” Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said in a statement. “Arizona has tough laws to protect children from this behavior, and I, for one, intend to enforce these laws vigorously.”

Jordan is alleged to have solicited the girl’s mother on July 8 to allow him to perform oral sex on the woman’s 6-year-old daughter, the mother told Gilbert police, who arrested Jordan on Aug. 11.

The mother told police she met Jordan, who is a Realtor, through a personal ad on the Web site Craigslist and the pair dated briefly, the police report states.

She then began receiving text messages saying how Jordan “enjoyed ‘young’ people,” a police report states.

Jordan then reportedly began asking the woman about her daughter. He ultimately asked whether she would arrange for him to have oral sex with the girl, a police report states.

He initially offered to pay $5,000, then $500 for every time the mother brought her daughter to him, the report states.

The mother “was worried that if she did not report this information to the police, that Barry would attempt to solicit someone else,” the report states.

When Gilbert detectives caught up with Jordan after placing him under surveillance, they found him with $551 in cash, the report states.

Jordan then told police that it was the mother whom they needed to investigate and that he did nothing wrong.

When police searched the man’s home, they recovered a computer containing files of pornography, but none appeared to contain girls younger than 18, the report states.

Police said they later obtained copies of text messages and e-mails between the mother and Jordan in which he talked about enjoying sexual activities with children.
