New York- A fondling fiend who had tiptoed into nine Suffolk homes and sexually assaulted sleeping young women and teens in recent weeks struck again yesterday, cops said.
The attacker, described as a man in his late teens or early 20s and standing 5-feet-8 to 6 feet tall, entered a North Amityville home through an unlocked door and sexually assaulted a young girl there.
Cops would not detail the specific attack, but Suffolk County Police Detective Lt. James Maher said the man typically touches, kisses and fondles his victims.
“We’re strongly cautioning people to lock their windows and doors,” Maher said. “This individual is becoming more and more bold. Ten incidents since Aug. 29 is not good.”
Maher said investigators want the public’s help in finding the pervert, who has also struck in Wyandanch, Wheatley Heights and West Babylon.
Victims ages 14 to 35 were sexually assaulted after the suspect entered their homes through unlocked or open windows and doors.
The first attacks occurred Aug. 29, when the suspect entered a Wyandanch home between 3 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. and proceeded to the bedrooms of sleeping females.
There were three attacks between then and Saturday, when the pace picked up with two more, followed by two on Sunday, another on Monday and yesterday’s attack.
The homeowner of one burglarized house told cops he woke up after hearing something in the house. He found the suspect standing in the kitchen, then saw him dive through an open window and flee on a bicycle.
Maher said the suspect may be targeting his victims, but the attacker also could be randomly searching for homes with open windows and doors.
In one incident, the suspect showed a knife to his victim. In another, he stole about $150.
“We’re fearful that he might be the type who would progress to something worse, and we want to catch him,” Maher said.
Cops strongly cautions that residents be aware of any suspicious people in their area.
