from www.latimes.com – A clerk at the Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s dispatch center is under administrative investigation for possible misuse of government property after a supervisor discovered pornographic videos under his desk, a department official confirmed.

Department spokesman Bruce Gillman said that the employee, whom he declined to identify, is suspected of using a department computer to order the materials and receiving them at his work address. Gillman said the inquiry involved at least one box containing multiple videos.

It was not clear what the employee, who is eligible for retirement, planned to do with the materials, Gillman said. Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department were called to investigate whether child pornography was involved, but no evidence of such material was found, Gillman confirmed.

“This was not a criminal matter,” Gillman said.

Some of the videos were “general viewership” movies such as westerns and comedies, Gillman said.

A city source familiar with the situation said the clerk had at least half a dozen boxes containing more than 600 pornographic DVDs, including multiple copies of several titles. There were also shipping packages on the employee’s desk along with PayPal paperwork, the source said, adding that the movie titles ranged from “mild to very extreme” porn.

The incident is the department’s second pornography-related incident in two years. One traffic officer was fired and another disciplined after an April 2011 incident in which the two men allegedly participated in the filming a pornographic video while using city property and uniforms.

A senior supervisor is investigating the latest incident, and any possible disciplinary action, if warranted, would come after the inquiry was completed, Gillman said.

“Inappropriate behavior is not acceptable and, depending on what is found, the department will take the strongest action,” Gillman said.
