from www.news.spong.com – Despite the video game industry making placatory noises about the primacy of digital-only deliver being decades away, US video games retailer GameStop is taking the inevitable move seriously.
It has appointed Chris Petrovic as General Manager, Digital Media. The official – and almost impenetrably corporate – description of what he’s supposed to do is: “He will be responsible for building on the company’s ongoing efforts to integrate digital media into the company’s multi-channel strategy, as well as overseeing the development and execution of a digital acquisition strategy.
“This includes leveraging the company’s unique and distinctive relationship with customers in-store, online and around the globe to drive driving digital sales through more than 6,200 domestic and international stores…”
In short, he’ll be trying to sort out a bricks’n’mortar retailer who – with the likes of the disc-free PSPgo in the market – could soon be looking at a bunch of unsold boxes.
So, what’s his gaming experience? Well, he worked with THQ and Jolt in his most recent job. That was vice president of Digital Media at Playboy Enterprises.
From Playboy to video games retail… that’s quite a move.
