from www.blog.al.com – A Mary G. Montgomery High School teacher accused of having an illicit sexual relationship with a student has given up her right to a preliminary hearing, sending the case to a grand jury.
A preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday in Mobile County District Court has been canceled.
Law enforcement authorities allege that Alicia Gray, 28, had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student. She took a leave of absence from her teaching position shortly after her arrest in February.
Gray’s attorney, Christine Hernandez, declined to comment on the case.
A Mobile County grand jury now will consider the allegations against Gray. Typically, it takes several months for the District Attorney’s Office to present a case once is has been sent to a grand jury.
If indicted, Gray would be arraigned and prepare for a jury trial in Mobile County Circuit Court. She remains free on bail.
