from www.dailypress.com – NEWPORT NEWS — A 17-year-old boy told police that he and his former Woodside High School teacher began having sex last year, according to court documents.

Police charged Cara Alexander, 27, with six felony counts of using a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving children; six misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor; and one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

On April 23, the boy’s mother saw nude photographs on her son’s cell phone and told police, according to a criminal complaint file in Newport News Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. The mother was able to identify the woman in the photo as Alexander, because she was her son’s ninth-grade teacher. Alexander, of Newport News, was charged April 26.

When questioned by police, Alexander “confirmed she was having an affair with a 17-year-old student,” according to the complaint filed by Newport News police detective M.A. Sinclair. Police found several sexual text messages sent between the boy and Alexander between April 9 and April 23, the complaint states.

“A text message was located on the victim’s phone from Cara Alexander’s phone number, referencing her having sexual intercourse with him since June 2012,” Sinclair writes.

Alexander, who is out on bond, declined to comment when reached by phone Tuesday.

The boy told police that they had sex more than 20 times since June of last year, according to the complaint. The two began communicating outside of school when the teen was expelled from Woodside in the summer of 2012. Alexander gave her cell phone number to the boy, according to police.

Alexander has lived in Newport News for four years and is currently separated from her husband, according to court documents.

“On April 9, 2013 Cara Alexander sent the victim a series of text messages asking him to sneak out and she would pick him up, she then tells him to have sexual intercourse with her,” according to the complaint.

Alexander is an English teacher at Woodside, according to Michelle Price, Newport News Public Schools spokeswoman. Price said school officials are in the process of terminating her employment. Alexander began working with the division in January 2009 as a substitute teacher. In August 2010, she was hired as a full-time teacher.

Alexander’s next court hearing is scheduled for May 21.
