Amesbury, Massachusetts- There will be no stripping or lap dancing in the town of Amesbury, Massachusetts. And you can pretty much thank the Citizens Against Nude Club Entertainment License [CANCEL] for that one. The group helped lobby for a deal in which plans to turn a paintball and snow tubing business into an adult entertainment mecca were cancelled.
Earlier this month The $1.4 million Amesbury Sports Park changed hands earlier this month on the condition that the land “shall not include an adult entertainment use.” Originally, Amesbury Sports Park co-owner Edward Dipple had considered transforming his paintball and snow tubing business into an adult entertainment club. But a combination of resident outcry and legal battles consuming five years with the city convinced Dipple to pursue a different course which now includes plans for soccer fields.
Amesbury resident Brenda Kolenda, who heads CANCEL, called the sale welcome news. Kolenda admitted there were times she felt a strip club was imminent but said her group would have fought to remove the club if necessary.
“We were always confident in that we were willing to stand up for our rights as citizens and do everything within the law,” she said.
