Someone forgot to tell Tom Cruise that Valkyrie had already been made twice before. Now Hollywood continues its errant spending with the news that Naomi Watts will be playing Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde”. Oops, maybe that same someone forgot to tell Andrew Dominik and his band of bozos that “Blonde” has already been made as a TV miniseries starring Poppy Montgomery as MM. In all fairness, Montgomery was quite convincing, though, and had you believing she was Monroe.
from www.Hollywoodnews.com: Naomi Watts will don a white dress and stand over a subway grate in the upcoming Marilyn Monroe-theme pic “Blonde.”
Film is a big-screen adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ memoir. Andrew Dominik, who last helmed Brad Pitt’s “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” is directing.
Speaking to Screen Daily, Dominik said, “Why is Marilyn Monroe the great female icon of the 20th Century? For men she is an object of sexual desire that is desperately in need of rescue. For women, she embodies all the injustices visited upon the feminine, a sister, a Cinderella, consigned to live among the ashes.”
He continues, “I want to tell the story of Norma Jean as a central figure in a fairytale; an orphan child lost in the woods of Hollywood, being consumed by that great icon of the twentieth century.”
“Blonde” is being produced by Anthony Bregman at the pricetag of $20 million and will begin lensing in January 2011.
