LINCOLN, Neb. — from www.ketv.com – The City Council has voted against allowing any more strip clubs in downtown Lincoln.

The council voted 6-1 on Monday for an ordinance containing the ban.

The Lincoln Lancaster-County Planning Commission had recommended changing the zoning code to prohibit “sexually oriented live entertainment establishments” in the downtown business district.

Supporters said downtown Lincoln has changed, with more family oriented entertainment available.

City Councilman Doug Emery opposed the ordinance, saying the ban is like “squashing a bug with a sledgehammer.”

The two topless dance clubs now in the downtown area will be allowed to remain.
