New York- The so-called Menagerie Madam – an animal-rescue buff from Long Island accused of running a $30 million Manhattan prostitution ring – pleaded not guilty yesterday to a 56-count indictment.
Prosecutors say Julie Moya, 47, ran at least five cash-only brothels throughout Midtown.
Most seriously, she is accused of employing at least one prostitute under the age 16. For that, she faces 25 counts of statutory rape, charging, in effect, she acted in concert with the men who paid to have sex with the girl.
The indictment’s remaining charges are for promoting prostitution and for allowing other criminal sex acts be performed on the girl.
