Next Door Films premiered its new feature, “That Summer,” on Saturday, January 21, on Next Door Studios' website. The film is the sixth release from the company's story-driven line and stars Next Door exclusive performers Carter Woods and Ryder Owens.

"That Summer" Debuts

“That Summer” is a cinematic tale of self-discovery and romance. Jeremy Babcock, executive producer and Next Door CCO, stated that the project was "my baby from day one." Babcock indicated that the film was inspired by a country song of the same name and was his way of "having some gay fun with my Montana roots." He also mentioned the goal was to "make some eye candy and explore what happens behind closed doors out in the country," with Ryder Owens and Carter Woods having "a need to feel the thunder and chase the lightning from the sky."

Writer Dalton King collaborated closely with Babcock on the project. King described the writing process as "so much fun," noting, "I don’t think I have ever written something like this in my life." King expressed feeling "privileged" to develop an idea that Babcock "had been wanting to do for a while." He also praised the performances of both Carter Woods and Ryder Owens in the movie.

Ryder Owens commented on working with Carter Woods, stating, "He’s so sexy and fun that when we were making the scenes, I didn’t want to stop filming." Woods echoed this sentiment, adding, "It was great to fit into a role that felt a little closer to home."

The film was released on January 21, as reported by Dave Parkman on XBIZ.com on January 20, 2023.

"Breaking Frontiers" Continues the Story

Next Door Films is also set to release a four-part feature titled “Breaking Frontiers.” This new film, written and directed by Jeremy Babcock, continues the story of Carter Woods’ cowboy character from “That Summer.” “Breaking Frontiers” will feature Carter Woods with his new ranch hand, Cody Seiya. The narrative involves Carter letting his guard down and embracing Cody’s advances, with encouragement from Carter’s horse caretaker, Andrew Miller. The plot also explores what happens when Carter’s high school friends visit.

Jeremy Babcock explained that "Breaking Frontiers" has been a goal since the release of “That Summer.” He noted that "People really responded to our first cowboy love story," and he had been "waiting for the right opportunity to continue the story." Babcock stated that making this film as the "big Feature of the Summer" provided the "perfect opportunity to do it right," allowing them to "bring in some new characters and really dig deep into creating this sexy country world."

Carter Woods, an ASG Exclusive model, remarked that this character is "one of my favorites to play." He found the accent to be the "most difficult part" for him, describing it as "not my cup of tea" but "still hilarious to try." Woods also spoke positively about working with Cody Seiya, stating, "I had the pleasure of shooting with Cody Seiya, and he definitely lived up to the hype." He described Seiya as "a great person and scene partner" and expressed anticipation for future collaborations.

Cody Seiya reciprocated the praise for Carter Woods, noting that his scene with Woods "felt so intimate." Seiya attributed this to Woods' "acting ability and kindness as a sex partner," which made him "comfortable." Seiya also mentioned that he is named after Wild Bill Cody, and that this role felt like "a fun way of delving into my namesake."

The release of "Breaking Frontiers" was announced on July 5, 2024, by ASGmax Blog, which stated that ASGmax is "bringing the heat this Summer" with this four-part movie from Next Door Films.
