I get a little testy with mainstream writers waxing about the porn industry as if they know something about it.
Like, for instance, last week we witnessed a ghastly verbal splooge created when one Internet scribe referred to the late Marilyn Chambers as “Melanie” with another stating that Linda Lovelace appeared in Deep Throat with John Holmes.
With the death of Chambers, and the release of the Sasha Grey movie, The Girlfriend Experience, a few more observations have reared themselves- one in particular stating that Chambers was the first porno crossover artist.
No, no, no, not if you’re really getting technical about these things!!!
No offense to Marilyn, but you got to go back a little ways into the history of TV to get the near-to-correct answer on this one. Actor Sam Melville playing police Officer Mike Danko appeared on The Rookies for its four season run [1972-76] on ABC.
But in 1966 Melville also happened to be in a gritty little skin flick titled The Smell of Honey, A Swallow of Brine performing under the name Neville Coward. Melville, who also had a part in the cult classic Big Wednesday, romances his fellow office worker [Stacey Walker] and gets drawn into her little mind games.
Walker, a very sexy blonde with a big league pout, only appeared in a couple of skin movies, which is unfortunate, but Walker puts on a great show as a devilish tease who drives Melville out of his mind. And not in a good way.
The movie, directed by Bobby Darin lookalike Byron Mabe, is available from Something Weird Video, www.somethingweird.com .
Melville passed away in 1989 at the age of 53.
