UK- From www.news.com.au- A LONDON taxi driver convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting women passengers was jailed indefinitely yesterday.
John Worboys, 51, was told he will not be released until parole officials are convinced he does not pose a threat to women.

Croydon Crown Court ordered that the former stripper and porn star must serve a minimum of eight years behind bars for his sexual assaults on at least 12 women.

Detectives have linked at least 85 crimes to Worboys and suspect he is one of Britain’s most prolific sex attackers.

They plan to interview him again in prison after a number of women came forward after his conviction to say they were also attacked.

“Drivers of licensed black cabs in London have a worldwide reputation not only for the reliability of their driving but for their professional trustworthiness,” Justice Penry-Davey said yesterday in sentencing the man.

“As somebody with an enduring and powerful interest in sexual matters you saw an opportunity through cab driving.”

Last month Worboys was found guilty of assaulting 12 women during an 18-month reign of terror in London, particularly about the West End.

The cabbie offered female passengers champagne spiked with powerful sedatives to celebrate a fictional lottery win, backed up with a carrier bag stuffed full of cash.

The drugs left the women insensible and unable to protect themselves as he pounced on them in the back of the vehicle.
