Before we get into today's topic, class, I urge you to put the book "Catching the Wolf of Wall Street" by Jordan Belfort on your summer reading list.
The former kingpin of the investment firm Stratton Oakmont, Belfort was known as "The Wolf" because of his ability to smell money from great distances and hunt it down ferociously like an animal of the wild. Brilliant and conniving, Belfort is what formerly incarcerated Wall Street legends are made of.
One movie has already been made about Belfort's operation, "Boiler Room", and word is Leonardo DiCaprio intends playing him in a film based on Belfort's autobiographical first book, "The Wolf of Wall Street". To put Jordy Belfort in the porn perspective, he and Rob Spallone used to sell "ices" on the beach at Long Island during the summers.
Spallone went on to make porn movies; and Belfort, who got his start selling fish and poultry door to door, went on to do 22 months courtesy of the Feds. His two books, astounding for their detail, nuance and psychological insight, tell a self-deprecating story in almost Woody Allen fashion as Belfort angsts non-stop about his second wife, aka "The Duchess" while paralyzing your funny bone with unflinching descriptions of the Sopranos-type maladroits that were brought down with him.
