NY- Shock jock Howard Stern’s alleged free on-air plugs for Sirius Satellite Radio came with a $2 million price.
CBS Radio recently settled a legal claim that Stern used its airtime to promote Sirius before he left the network for satellite in January.
Terms of the agreement, released yesterday, show part of it was a $2 million payment by Sirius to CBS.
A joint statement, made by spokesmen for CBS and Stern, claims the cash is part payment for the rights to recordings of Stern’s CBS broadcasts.
“As part of the settlement, CBS Radio will receive payments relating to the conveyance of its rights in the recordings of the Howard Stern Show,” it said.
“Sirius, for its part, will make a total payment of $2 million related to this conveyance. The remaining terms and conditions of the settlement are confidential.”
CBS Radio had alleged fraud and breach of contract by its former morning-show host, and sued for $218 million.
While the suit was still pending, Stern was naturally unapologetic. He told the Daily News in March he “didn’t defy any rule.”
“I gave up my f—–g life, my whole f—–g personal life, I sacrificed for that company . . . and they made money,” he said. “The thank-you is unbelievable – a frivolous lawsuit.”
