from www.rocnow.com – A former Canandaigua teacher who pleaded guilty to charges that included a case of sexual contact with a student was sentenced Friday to 45 days in jail and three years probation on each charge, to be served concurrently.
Marla Gurecki-Haskins of Running Brook Road, Farmington, was remanded to the Ontario County Jail on Friday to begin serving the sentence. An order of protection for five years also was entered on behalf of the victims.
Gurecki-Haskins pleaded guilty in September to the misdemeanors of endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct. The official misconduct charge pertains to performing oral sex on a 17-year-old male student in a classroom during school hours in April.
Gurecki-Haskins resigned from her job and surrendered her teaching certificate as part of the plea agreement. She had taught in the district for 15 years. According to the plea deal, she did not have to register as a sex offender.
She also had been accused of communicating with 16-year-old boys electronically — via cell phone, texts and e-mails — to encourage them to have a sexual relationship with her, police said.
