from www.gothamist.com – More details have emerged about Judge James D. Gibbons, who abruptly resigned earlier this month just before it was publicly revealed that inquiries into his work computer turned up pornography.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office is scouring the files to determine if any of the girls are underage, and if criminal charges are warranted. According to the Daily News, an investigator told them that, “There was a lot of porn on his computer—all young women. Lots of crotch and cleavage shots.”
Gibbons, 47, was on paternity leave when this investigation begun; he had just fathered a son weeks ago with Legal Aid lawyer Jeanne Emhoff, 31.
Gibbons had already been under scrutiny for the relationship with Emhoff, for a possible conflict of interest had she appeared before his bench. People who knew him well say the allegations of pornography are uncharacteristic; according to lawyer Adam Freedman, “He was a very careful judge on the law. If he was using his state-issued computer for illegal activities, it would be uncharacteristic, considering how careful he is on the law.”
The News seems particularly, personally hurt by the revelations about Gibbons, peppering today’s story on him with adjectives like “vile,” “disgraced,” “cleavage-crazed,” “nasty,” and “ethics-skirting.” Maybe they’re just upset that Law and Order has left the NY coop, because this would have made a perfect ripped-from-the-headlines plot (if you threw in a murder or two, of course).
