from www.miamiherald.com – MIAMI — A prostitute fought back when a 48-year-old man attacked her with a hammer to avoid payment.

Police say 29-year-old Katrina Major wrestled the hammer away from Douglas Curtis Mann Wednesday afternoon and hit him several times. The fight started in a home and continued down the street where police found Mann bloody and unconscious near Edison Park Elementary School in Miami.

Man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Major suffered minor injuries.

Police say the investigation continues. No charges have been filed.
