A Brief History of Arrow: Arrow Productions formerly known as “AFV” (Arrow Film and Video) began in about 1969 as a film distribution company reminiscent of old Hollywood. As it was then and now, main stream Hollywood has a “production” company that produces the films and a “distribution” company that distributes the films. Louis Peraino Sr. started AFV as a film distribution company out of New York City to market adult films. While there was never any evidence that Arrow was part of the Mafia, Lou Sr.’s father was a “high office holder” in the Mafia.

As you can imagine, AFV never had a problem with funding and began to fund the production of several movies because these were the days of adult films being treated as a major motion picture. There was really no gonzos or comps that existed. Production costs were as high as $250K and needed the backing of a strong company. The Mafia were the only ones interested in lending that kind of money. This is when distribution and production merged into one company.

The renowned director, Gerard Damiano, noticed at a swinger’s party how Linda Lovelace could swallow a dick and approached Lou Peraino Sr. saying they could do something with her talent. In 1973, AFV released the famous “Deep Throat” movie. Duplicating facilities all over the USA were working night and day to keep up with demand. Millions of dollars were being made on just one movie. Women grabbed their throat and men sighed when Linda Lovelace did her thing on Harry Reams.

It wasn’t long before every district attorney in the USA were after Lou Peraino and AFV to put a stop to these awful sex tapes that were corrupting America’s young people. Keep in mind that the timing was incredibly perfect for AFV because there was a new invention called the VCR which allowed people to see such adult movies in the privacy of their homes instead of the “Kit Kat Theater.” Lou Peraino spent many years in and out of jail fighting the US Government over Freedom of Speech issues. He died of cancer in 1998 and sold the company prior to his death to Raymond Pistol who changed the name to Arrow Productions. Since 1973, with all the press given to “Deep Throat,” it continues to be one of the best selling movies of all time.
