California’s New Condom Law Could Move Porn Jobs From L.A. to Miami; Still Forgetting the Fact It’s Illegal to Shoot There

I believe I’ve already weighed in on this subject: www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=56486

from www.miaminewtimes.com – Miami’s economy might soon get a deep injection of revenue from an unlikely source: the adult-film industry. Because amid all the hoopla of last week’s presidential election, a new law passed in California that might shift hundreds of porn jobs to the Sunshine State.

Last Tuesday, Los Angeles residents left porn studios feeling limp by voting for the Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act. The initiative, proposed and backed by the L.A.-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation, makes it mandatory for porn stars to wear condoms in films. On top of that, studios must obtain permits from the county health department, with routine inspections to make sure no one is dipping his wick unprotected.

The new law has studios thinking long and hard about pulling out of this tight spot and shooting elsewhere. Already, other California counties, as well as Las Vegas and European porn capital Hungary, are being discussed as new homes for humping.

Miami — where porn studios have an established base with good weather, lots of talent, and no pesky protection laws — could also benefit from the mess on L.A. studios’ hands.

“I certainly think Miami would be a region people would gravitate to,” says Dan Miller, the executive managing editor of industry trade publication XBIZ.

“South Florida will be among the hot spots.”

Already, Miami boasts a big and growing adult industry. Internet titans Reality Kings and Bangbros are based here, and a number of major L.A. studios shoot some work here. Other small-time producers in South Florida could see more work, says Theo Sapoutzis, CEO of Adult Video News.

But those expecting a white-hot explosion of pornos shot on catamarans in Biscayne Bay — or looking to start their own porno production company — shouldn’t blow their wad yet. The new law will take months to implement, and studios, led by industry advocacy group the Free Speech Coalition, plan to challenge the law in court.

So until the law is sorted out, porn studios will keep pounding away in L.A., leaving Miami with a bad case of economic blue balls. Adult entertainment producers and stars in Florida hope the courts hold up the law and this doesn’t end up just a wet dream.
