Nebraska- from www.omaha.com – The husband of State Sen. Abbie Cornett [pictured] pleaded no contest Thursday to a misdemeanor charge of soliciting a prostitute.
Mark Stranglen, 47, of Bellevue, made the plea during a brief appearance before Douglas County Judge Susan Bazis. He paid a $75 fine and court costs.
A second misdemeanor charge, for failing to appear for a trial earlier this month, was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
Stranglen was ticketed Dec. 12 after contacting an undercover FBI agent through the Internet and meeting her at an Omaha hotel. The sting was part of a human trafficking initiative of the FBI and local agencies.
“I can’t imagine anything more humiliating for my wife and my family,” Stranglen said in an interview. “For that, I’m truly sorry.”
He declined further comment about the case.
When reached, Cornett asked for privacy for her family. “Right now, I’m only focused on taking care of my children,” she said.
Stranglen is a former crime lab employee of the Omaha Police Department. His wife, a state senator for the past 7½ years, is a former Omaha police officer.
