Sean Looks at The Week of 10/21/2012: No on Measure B Campaign, Sasha Grey, Richard Schwab, Kerri Hoskins-Benson and Rebecca Bardoux: Make Room in the Trophy Case

Sean writes – We don’t make the news, we just exploit it.

The Larry Olivier Thespian award goes to Sasha Grey.

This week the Guardian out of England felt compelled to interview Sasha in which she compares her past porn scenes as “performance art pieces.”

“That’s how I approached every scene I did,” she says.

“Obviously that’s not always translated to people watching it in five-second clips. So it would have been a way to really grab the focus of the audience. But ultimately we felt it would have been cheaper if we’d approached it that way, because it would have been expected.”

Somebody alert the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts: who knew gagging on multiple cocks and taking it up the ass was ‘art.’

The Seka Mathematical Institute award goes to the No on Measure B campaign.

This week during a rally when the troops got together in Studio City, an impassioned Steve ‘Papa Smurf’ Hirsch told attendees to fork over the donations because, “If we don’t do it now, it will cost a lot more battling this in the future,” he said.

The No on Measure B crowd estimates it needs $633,000 to wage a good battle against AHF’s media efforts, including $400,000 for TV ads and $120,000 for radio spots, in the next 13 days leading up to the Nov. 6 general election.

Let’s see….$400k for TV…$120k for Radio….yeah, by math that leaves about $113k left over for the big victory party I guess.

The Jackie Chiles Attorney at Law award goes to former porn star turned teacher, Stacie Halas’ attorney, Richard [don’t call him Charles] Schwab.

In his attempt to get his client’s teaching job back, Schwab argued that although porn might not be a respected industry, it is a legal one. He says Halas did it because she needed the money, and now she’s trying to do something different.

“I think most of us have something in our backgrounds,” Schwab said outside the hearing room. “And I ask anybody here to cast the first stone.”

“What happened six years ago has not impacted her ability to be an effective teacher,” he added.

I’m sure Stacie is qualified to teach, but I suspect being able to pull up your teacher’s best sex scenes on may hinder a student’s ability to learn…at least what she’s teaching in class.

The Hero of the Week Award goes to Kerri Hoskins-Benson.

Benson is running for election to the Kane County Board against Republican incumbent Drew Frasz.

Kerri modeled for Playboy and portrayed Sonya Blade in the live-action tour of the popular 1990s video game “Mortal Kombat.” Not surprisingly, her challenger is making a big deal out of her past.

Frasz said recently that Branson’s nudie pictorial and violent video game past is uncouth for a Kane County Board member.

“Those are two things people do not allow in their homes that she was involved in,” Frasz told the Times. “I didn’t bring it up, even though I knew about this right after she filed. I want to run on the merits of the race.”

Branson last appeared in Playboy in 1995 and she is now married and has four children, including 15-year-old twins who suffer from cerebral palsy.

“I don’t regret what I did,” Branson said. “I was very successful at it, and it brought me to Illinois, where I met my husband and have a beautiful family.”

Instead of running for her past Branson owns up to her past and isn’t ashamed of it. Good for her and best of luck.

From the Mouths of Babes award goes to Rebecca Bardoux [pictured].

During a debate Bardoux was asked why she objected to the condom measure, she said, “It’s a matter of our rights. It’s our freedom of choice to choose if we want to use a condom or not which is now the way it is in the industry today.”

Her follow up nailed the true point of why the industry doesn’t want mandatory condom use: “We’re in a competitive market all over the world and it’s going to cause a lot of problems and a lot of job losses and a lot of money loss for the United States porn industry.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, this issue isn’t about testing or freedom of choice it’s all about the money. It always has been. Once you face that fact your life will be so much easier. So stop waving the American flag and put away your copy of the Declaration of Independence. It’s all about competing with Europe and Asia for the few porn dollars left.
