from www.laist.com – “Wasteland” (Elegant Angel). Director Graham Travis [pictured]) returned with a sophomore effort that is artistically rooted in his “Portrait of a Call Girl,” but with “Wasteland” he told an emotional story about a rekindled friendship between Anna (Lily Carter) and Jacky (Lily LaBeau).

With stellar performances from Carter and LaBeau, as well as solid direction and editing by Travis, it’s not surprising that it was screened last month at the L.A. International Underground Film Festival. “Wasteland” is nominated for 15 AVN Awards and 12 XBIZ Awards, including Best Actress (Lily Carter and Lily LaBeau), Best Original Song, Best Director: Feature, and Best Drama, and is arguably the frontrunner in many of those categories.

“Torn” (New Sensations). Co-directors Eddie Powell and Jacky St. James (“The Friend Zone,” “Love, Marriage, and Other Bad Ideas”) deviated from the rom-com formula of their successful Romance Series with “Torn,” weaving a dramatic tale of infidelity that was based on a true story. Steven St. Croix and Remy LaCroix have instant chemistry together, and its supporting cast, which includes India Summer, Raylene, Samantha Ryan, and Tom Byron, are fantastic.

“Torn” is nominated for 9 AVN Awards and 12 XBIZ Awards, including Best Actress (Remy LaCroix), Best Actor (Steven St. Croix), Best Supporting Actress (Raylene and India Summer), Best Director: Feature, and Best Romance Release.

“The Valley” (Zero Tolerance). Director Sam Hain (“The Sex Files: A Dark XXX Parody,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation: A XXX Parody”) updated Raymond Chandler’s “The Big Sleep,” with Gulf War veteran and private investigator Marlowe (Tommy Pistol) hired by a wealthy father (Peter O’Tool) to locate his youngest daughter. Andy San Dimas was perfectly cast as the daughter’s older sister and femme fatale. Hain always manages to perfectly capture the tone in his work, and this sexified film noir is no exception. “The Valley” is nominated for 10 AVN Awards and 2 XBIZ Awards, including Best Supporting Actress (Chanel Preston), Best Director: Feature, and Best Drama.

“Godfather: A Dreamzone Parody” (DreamZone Entertainment). Director Lee Roy Myers (“Family Guy: The XXX Parody,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer XXX: The Parody”), who is crazy (or brilliant) enough to make live-action porn parodies of “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy,” paid hysterical homage to the first “Godfather” movie, parodying its dialogue with lines like, “Luca Balsi sleeps with the bitches.” “Godfather: A Dreamzone Parody” is nominated for 10 AVN Awards and 9 XBIZ Awards, including Best Supporting Actress (Kagney Linn Karter), Best Supporting Actor (Michael Vegas), Best Director: Non-Feature, and Best Parody: Comedy.

“Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody” (Vivid Entertainment). Director Axel Braun (“Avengers XXX: A Porn Parody,” “The Dark Knight XXX: A Porn Parody”) is revered by nerds for his nearly-canonical yet sexified treatment of various major comic book and sci-fi movie properties, and “Star Wars” was his most ambitious project yet.

With a cast that included Allie Haze as Princess Leia and Lexington Steele as Darth Vader, Braun even crafted a sex scene for Chewbacca as well as a ménage à trois between Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo. “Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody” is nominated for 20 AVN Awards and 16 XBIZ Awards, including Best Actress (Allie Haze), Best Actor (Seth Gamble), Best Supporting Actor (Tom Byron), Best Director: Non-Feature, and Best Parody: Comedy.
