Playboy Retaliates By Suing Chicago divorce lawyer Corri Fetman Who’s Suing Them

from www.chicagotribune.com – The Chicago divorce lawyer who stirred up controversy with a racy billboard for her law firm and later bared it all for Playboy is now being sued by the magazine.

Playboy alleges in a suit filed Monday that Corri Fetman is trying to steal the phrase “Lawyer of Love” that it coined for an advice column Fetman briefly wrote for the magazine’s Web site.

Playboy’s suit follows a sexual harassment claim that Fetman filed in March against an executive of the publishing empire. Fetman alleged that Thomas Hagopian, an executive in the digital branch of Playboy Enterprises, bombarded her with sexually explicit e-mails and phone calls, groped her and took away her column in July 2008 when she repeatedly rebuffed his advances. Hagopian left the company last year, according to Playboy.

The sexual harassment suit is pending in Cook County Circuit Court, according to court clerk’s Web site.

Fetman gained notoriety in 2007 when she sponsored a billboard in the Rush Street nightclub district with the brash slogan: “Life’s short. Get a divorce.”

The ad featured photographs of a sexy, scantily clad woman on one side of the text and a buff, bare-chested man on the other. The billboard, ostensibly pulled because it lacked proper permits, unleashed a storm of publicity.

Fetman later revealed in her Playboy pictorial in the February 2008 issue that the photos in the ad were of her and her personal trainer.

In addition to posing, she started writing a weekly column on a freelance basis for playboy.com. The company said in its suit that Fetman waived any rights to the “Lawyer of Love” mark in her agreement with Playboy.

In August, nearly a year after her Playboy column was terminated, Fetman filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office seeking to register “Lawyer of Love” as her mark. Playboy alleges that she is seeking to capitalize on the company’s reputation and has asked the court for a temporary restraining order and monetary damages.

Fetman writes a blog called the “Love Lawyer” for Chicago Now, a Web site affiliated with the Chicago Tribune. She did not immediately return a message left for her at her law office.
