Thoughts Over the Morning’s Coffee: Ron Jeremy- “People Don’t Want to Spend Money on Porn”

Much is being made in the press of the 2-minute interview Ron Jeremy gave over the weekend in which he talks about the passage of Measure B as being the “final nail in the coffin” for the porn industry.

The segment has gone viral as a YouTube clip, and, honestly, I don’t know why they post half these things. The sound quality’s terrible because Jeremy’s interviewed in a roomful of yammering people.

I tried listening to it, and part of what I caught is Jeremy talking about how porn piracy has closed a number of companies including Gourmet Video and Red Light District. I’m sure David Joseph who’s up for a couple of AVN awards would like to hear that news. And Gourmet was done long before free porn.

In his lament about porn piracy, Jeremy also says, “People today don’t want to spend money, so the porn business really is suffering.”

Known as the industry’s ultimate tight wad, I ask you, when was the last time Ron Jeremy spent a dime on anything? It’s well known that Ron has a policy of never picking up a check, and you couldn’t get Jeremy to come out for a function unless there’s a free food buffet involved.

There’s nothing wrong about being cheap, of course. It does take a certain skill and ingenuity to guilt your friends into picking up a tab or wheedling an airline into funeral fares by passing yourself off as a relative of the deceased, but for Jeremy to insinuate that porn has gone the way of the Dodo bird because people do what he does on a daily basis? That’s brass balls.

Instead of decrying piracy in its generalities, what doesn’t Jeremy call a spade a spade, and start naming names? Certainly he’s got the marquee value and influence to attack the Manwins of the world for how they’ve de-valued porn. Instead, he picks the easier target.

Hey, Ron, ever consider the fact that people don’t want to spend money on porn because they don’t have it to spend?
