The poet Dante couldn’t have come up with a better vision of hell than the AEE show in Las Vegas. Fun and games? Try standing for hours on end with no chairs in sight. Your legs ache and your lower back by the end of the day is giving out in screaming anguish. If you wanted to lie down you can’t. The oxygen pumped into those casinos gives your weary soul a miserable second life.

There are an endless stream of parties to attend, and, by the end of the week, the close proximity to humanity gives you what I call “Vegas Voice.”

By Sunday, you ‘ll have bronchitis and other flu symptoms. If you drove, the traffic jam coming out of Vegas is enough to make you wail like a banshee, but no one in the desert will hear you.

And all next week is shot because you’re getting over the malaise that has swept your body. But it’ll be worth it- especially if you win an AVN Award.

But no one tells you that award has theoretically signed your death certificate.

None of this is an exaggeration. Because if you’re in porn for the short term, you might as well be in it for the long haul. As the existentialist Jean Paul Sartre once wrote, there is “No Exit.” Ask Stacie Halas.

Halas a relative nobody didn’t work in porn, like some, for the awards and the fan idolatry. Her idea was to get in and out and pay a few bills. Now she’s paying dearly.

Halas who became a school teacher in the California school system was outed by some creep who thought it would be funny to rat out the teacher. She lost her job.

Halas is not the first former porn performer to be exposed for having a past. She won’t be the last. The next one may be you.

Halas appealed and lost. In making the decision that alters Halas’ life forever, Judge Julie Cabos-Owen said such a past as Halas’ matters in an age when technology makes porn easy to access and hard to bury.

“Although her pornography career has concluded, the ongoing availability of her pornographic materials on the Internet will continue to impede her from being an effective teacher and respected colleague,” Cabos-Owen said in the 46-page decision issued by the Commission on Professional Competence.

Look in the mirror. You may be young and cute now, but in 30 years with no prospects of a real career, you’ll be an old crone hanging on to porn’s boot straps. And Judge Cabos-Owen just told you why.
