Thoughts Over The Morning’s Coffee: Where Does All the Money from Industry Fundraisers Go?

I don’t know what the Average Mo carries around in his pocket, and I don’t know what Amber Lynn takes in tips on an average night at the North Hollywood strip club she works at. My guess is, the combined gross income isn’t enough to pay off the national porn debt.

The Free Speech Coalition is always collecting dues and holding fund raisers, but the suspicion here is the bulk of the money goes to pay Diane Duke’s hefty annual salary plus what other expenses are accrued by the FSC to keep its doors open.

I, like others, was always under the impression that AIM under Sharon Mitchell was doing okay until I saw this article written by Mitchell in 2009: www.web.archive.org/web/20100305192228/http://www.aim-med.org/news/2009/10/28/1256757504/

AIM’S PLAN OF ACTION FOR CONTINUED DONATIONS TO STAY AFLOAT

Phase One: We have taken a considerate and thorough accounting from our Data Base List of Companies who donate on a monthly basis. Since AIM does not need the entire balance at one time, (and we are down to about $180,000.00 from $250,000.00) so we clearly are making progress…. back to the plan; We are creating a sliding scale pertinent to the size of each production company.

The amounts that AIM will be suggesting for donations from each, could be donated over a 2-3 month period of time! This way no one gets too big of a sting, and it is fair, as we did protect the Data Base and the Industry in it’s entirety, not just patient O, or just one production company or patient.

Phase Two: Since AIM has not raised the price of testing since January of 2006, we have no choice right now to raise the price by a small increment, which does add up at the end of each month.

Phase Three: There are two Fundraisers are scheduled. LATATA on November 11th. Belladonna is diligently working on an Event to be scheduled in early December.

BY NO MEANS DOES THIS PROGRESS REPORT MEAN THAT AIM IS OUT OF HOT WATER!!!! THIS IS AN URGENT PLAN OF ACTION, AND THE BEST WAY WE FEEL THAT WE HAVE A CHANCE TO REMAIN OPEN!

AIM has been receiving donations from talent, and general public alike. We are greatly appreciative for this. We wish to thank everyone who has stepped up to help us during this time of our most crucial need. There are some days where we feel as if we are sweeping the ocean back with a broom, and often this is a thankless job.

Your actions and reactions of generosity, has truly warmed the cockles of our heart. AIM is very grateful to see folks not being intimidated by this important undertaking. THANK YOU! This makes us feel as if we indeed did do the right thing by throwing our money, our time and literally AIM on the OSHA grenade. Thus winning a small battle in the fight for Independence in the Adult Industry.”

You’ll note that Mitchell makes reference to donations and fundraisers. While I have no clue how AIM’s books were kept, the next link should come as even more surprise:

Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, 4630 Van Nuys Blvd., Sherman Oaks; Chapter 7; document SV11-16270-MT; assets: $3,550; debts: $722,884; May 19.

So in all the years of its operation AIM, which says it had $180,000 on its books as of 2009, was down to assets of $3,550, two years later and had managed to rack up a debt of $722,884 besides. Basically that’s $900,000 that’s never been accounted for.

So where did all of this debt come from? Could it be that, as one of my readers suggests, the industry has been sold a bill of goods that lawsuits caused AIM to go bankrupt? Is the FSC a partner in floating this story? Where are the records of any of these alleged law suits.

Try to find a single record of any lawsuit against AIM ever going to trial. Was this $700,000 just for legal bills involving lawsuits that never went to trial? And, as a non-profit, any out of court settlements involving AIM would be public record, but there are none.

Where did the money go? Did Desi Foxx and Darren James walk away with all the money in settlements out of court? It would be nice to know, but I guess we’ll never know.
