from www.dispatch.com – The Hustler Hollywood store in the Clintonville area is closing at the end of the month, but the adult-merchandise retailer hasn’t given up on central Ohio.

“We are looking at a new location in Columbus,” said Dustin Olive, director of retail operations at parent company LFP Inc. in Beverly Hills, Calif.

“It’s just that Clintonville wasn’t the right location for us. But Columbus is an area where we will call home, based on our favorable experience with customers there.”

The store at 2761 N. High St. opened in July 2011 in a space once occupied by a TanPro tanning salon. The size of the location was smaller than Hustler’s “megastore” prototype, said Eric M. Eldridge, vice president of commercial realty and property services for the building’s property manager, Dublin-based New Perspective Realty LLC.

The smaller size “apparently didn’t take well to the market. So they’re closing up,” Eldridge said.

LFP Inc., or Larry Flynt Publishing Inc., owns more than a dozen Hustler Hollywood stores, including two others in Ohio: in Cincinnati and Monroe.

The shops — which have been described as “an upscale combination of sex shop and coffee bar” — sell merchandise such as lingerie, swimwear, sex toys, glassware and other adult novelties.

Some in the community were concerned when about the shop coming to the Clintonville area. But once it opened, the shop kept a low profile.

“We’ve had no interaction with them at all, and they’re not a chamber member,” said Clintonville Area Chamber of Commerce President Jenny Smith. “We didn’t know they were coming, and we didn’t know they were going.”

“I never really thought it was that big of an issue,” said former Clintonville Area Commission member Sarah Snyder. “When it went in, they did work with community members in improving the parking lot and landscaping, and they put in a bike rack. But it seemed clear they were renting that property. It never seemed a permanent thing. Ultimately, it proved not to be a good fit.”
