Jerry Butler: Once Girls Leave the Porn Business They Cross Their Legs and Become Intellects

Do today’s generation of porn performers and fans recognize the name Jerry Butler? I don’t know. But in his heyday, Jerry Butler was the best: handsome, intelligent, in great shape and extremely talented. As a performer, Butler lived a crazy existence with a wild sense of humor and wrote about all of it in one of the industry’s first autobiogs, Raw Talent.

For telling the truth and laying it on the line as only he could, Butler was eviscerated and black listed from the business, though no one was coming out and saying that. Today he lives in Brooklyn, still hits the gym daily and continues to work with handicapped children.

Butler finds it particularly funny that Oprah’s now entertaining porn stars to come on her show when he was, at the time, denied an invite during a press junket for Raw Talent.

“My publisher was told they didn’t endorse, nor would they have anything to do with porn. Now Oprah seems to be climbing the Jerry Springer ladder.”

Because Jenna on the show professed such enthusiasm about working in adult [you do remember her farewell speech at AVN a couple of years ago when what she had to say was anything but], Butler recalls the time he and Seka were on an ABC TV talk show together.

“I always had problems with her,” Butler says. “On this occasion Seka talked about how she always loved porn and sex.”

With that, Butler took the opportunity on live TV to ask her, if that was the case, why didn’t she just work for a dollar.

“She never spoke to me again,” he laughs. “She hated me after that.”

On another occasion, years earlier in Chicago at a CES show, Seka was roaming the floor with a camera crew following her every step.

“So she stops in front of me and is saying to the camera, ‘oh Jerry Butler, he’s one of my favorites!’ I tell her, how? I never worked with you in my life. The next day she’s coming around, again, and it’s the same thing, her saying I was one of her favorites. What are you lying for, I asked her.”

In Jameson’s case, Butler muses that porn chicks, once they leave the business, tend to close their legs and become intellects.

“I think it would be more interesting to find the average porn girl and find out what’s under the hood,” he states.
