Porn Valley- As a highly rated contender for last year’s Best New Male porn star, Kurt Lockwood is the face in the April issue of The Face, a UK mag that appears to have more than a passing fascination with L.A. and its unique citizenry.
In what amounts to a casual bio with a few celebrity names tossed in for good measure- for instance, we learn that directors Gus Van Sant, John Waters and Roger Corman are declared fans of Lockwood’s acting skills- the mag also anoints Lockwood as the “soon-to-be biggest straight male porn star to breeze into Hollywood without having abandoned porn.”
As far as that’s concerned, Lockwood, wants it known that it’s the magazine’s opinion, not his. “I get my balls busted enough as it is,” he says. Waters’ comment about Lockwood is also highly understandable, considering that Lockwood, a Gemini, hails from Baltimore like Waters, and has a background in theater.
“I’ve met my heroes,” the musically versatile Lockwood who also owns www.kurtlockwood.com is quoted as saying. “I played guitar on tour with Dee Dee Ramone. I got to hang with Iggy [Pop], The Damned, all the punk guys.”
In a side note, it’s stated that Lockwood, but for an occasional slap here and there, doesn’t do the nasty, Max Hardcore stuff but prefers “real sex” in his films. No cowboy hats in Kurt’s wardrobe, obviously. But if you’re looking to mimic Kurt for the next round of porn star karaoke, The Face also lists Lockwood’s fashion accessories and where you can purchase them- although Lockwood is more apt to show up for PSK in trucker outfits.
Besides songs, dances and snappy patter, Kurt is an avowed impressionist with a flair for accents and comedy stylings with an occasional cultural back slide into boxing and wrestling.
Unintentional humor: Lockwood states that his cologne de jour is Issey Miyake while his picture appears next to a Dolce & Garbana ad.
Background: In a recent interview, Lockwood, a former MTV personality, said he came into adult from the mainstream rather than the other way around.
“You go on a few thousand mainstream auditions and you don’t get anything; I guess I suck,” said Lockwood, frankly. “The audition process for mainstream is very grueling. They tell you to be someplace tomorrow at 2 to audition. No matter what you have planned you have to re-arrange and look your best to audition for somebody who says okay say your name, turn to the left, turn to the right. You’re done.”
Lockwood said once you go through that a few thousand times and don’t get your break, you try something else. “I went back to music where I originally came from. That’s where I toured the country with Dee Dee Ramone. I did that for awhile.” Lockwood said he was also dating an exotic dancer at the time who was approached to do adult. “I was her boyfriend and we worked together. Here I am.”
Asked what significant changes he noted in the crossover from mainstream to adult, Lockwood noted that there are still elements of adult that operate like the Wild, Wild West. “It’s a completely different animal than from the music industry. Anyone coming into the industry couldn’t help but be somewhat changed by it.”
Male talent, in the main, aren’t given much respect in the business,” Lockwood states frankly. “People aren’t buying the videos for us. They’re buying them for the girls.” Contrary to popular notion, Lockwood said it is difficult to perform and pop on command especially when you have 20 guys looking like Teamsters sitting around on the set. “It’s a lot of pressure. Even guys in the business struggle. We’re paid because we’re the guys who can do it.”
As for his website, Lockwood said he has someone who puts everything together for him. “I tell what I want; I write what I want to write and he puts it altogether for me because I’m no good at that stuff.”
