Wild World of Cataracts- “EXTREME Makeover” ophthalmologist Dr. Robert Maloney is hitting back against comedian Kathy Griffin, who claims Maloney botched her LASIK eye surgery. The Hollywood eye surgeon’s publicist, Jemma Cunningham, supplied us with statements of support from clients Cindy Crawford, Barry Manilow and Kenny G., and dismissed Griffin as a “self-admitted D-list celebrity” for good measure.

Griffin recently told PAGE SIX that she was losing the sight in her right eye due to complications from the surgery. The flame-haired funnygal sparked the ophthalmologist’s ire when she suggested she’d go to the media if he didn’t cough up $250,000.

Cindy Crawford’s statement read: “Eight years ago, I had LASIK surgery with Dr. Maloney with extremely successful results. I have recommended him to family and friends who have experienced the same satisfactory results.”

Manilow echoed: “Dr. Maloney is a great doctor and friend. Not only did he perform LASIK surgery on me with much success, I’ve in turn recommended well over a dozen friends to him, resulting in the same successful outcome.”

And schmaltzy saxophonist Kenny G. gushed: “Every time I open my eyes in the morning I think of Robert Maloney. It took about 20 seconds and my whole life changed.”

We’re told that Griffin, who suffered from a complication known as “epithelial cell in-growth” following LASIK surgery, had minor corrective surgery last week and is expected to fully recover. Regrettably, Griffin, who skewers celebs of all stripes in her Bravo comedy special, “Kathy Griffin: Life on the D-List,” could not be reached to comment on the likes of Manilow’s and Kenny G’s defense of her doctor.

Griffin, who admits that she did not return to Maloney after the surgery as he advised, denied ever threatening him. She told us last week that she no longer believed Maloney “had done anything wrong,” but that she simply wanted to “tell her story” and point out that LASIK was not risk-free.

This isn’t the first time Griffin has slammed a surgical procedure. After liposuction on her thighs and knees in 1999, Griffin said she suffered from near-fatal complications. She later appeared on “Oprah” to say the liposuction didn’t work and she was swearing off all plastic surgery.
