MISSION VIEJO – from www.dailynews.com – A registered sex offender on parole was arrested today after he allegedly videotaped a woman at a tanning salon in Mission Viejo, a sheriff’s department official said.
Johnny Guy Leyva, 33, was taken into custody at his mother’s home in Mission Viejo for alleged parole violation and having a concealed camera, a felony, said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The videotaping allegedly occurred about 10:30 p.m. Monday at Darque Tanning, 24000 Alicia Parkway, said Amormino.
A 25-year-old woman “entered a tanning room, took off her clothes” and was lying down when she noticed “two hands over an adjoining 8-foot wall,” Amormino said. The hands were holding a camera.
The woman got dressed, notified an employee at the business and later confront the man with the camera, said Amormino. The man wound up playing the video for the woman, who demanded he delete images of her, which he apparently did, according to Amormino.
Investigators subsequently learned that the man was a regular customer at the tanning salon. They also learned that he was required to wear a GPS tracking device, said Amormino.
Deputies used the tracking device to locate the suspect at his mother’s home.
According to Amormino, Leyva has at least one prior conviction for possession of child pornography.
Because he was a regular at the tanning salon, authorities are investigating if he victimized other customers there, said Amormino.
