Here are some thoughts on the business of adult talent. If you are an adult talent or a model, you are a business. You are an independent contractor working for yourself. I have been dealing with adult talent and models for over a year now and have noticed one glaring fact. The girls that treat this business seriously and know how to promote themselves are for the most part very successful and the girls that do not view it as a business rarely do well.
If you want to be a “star” or be successful in this business there are a few things that you should do:
Keep yourself up, have your nails done monthly. Its pretty nasty when a hot girl shows up at a shoot and looks great but has nasty nails.
Do appearances on shows like KSEXradio.com, Howard Stern, etc. These are invaluable for name recognition and publicity.
Get business cards and hand them out when you work for someone, also don’t forget to get their business cards. This is a business of contacts.
Keep track of who you work with.
Get a website or at least a Yahoo group. You will have a following of fans, this is something that you can turn into long-term income. A great example is BiSexual Britni, her website is wildly successful. It is successful because she interacts with her fans and is great at promoting herself.
Work with a good agent or manager and stick with them, especially when you are new it’s a good idea to do this. You do not know who is good to work with, who is a scam and what the correct rates are.
Have updated photos taken often. There is nothing worse then being sent to a shoot only to show up and the director sends you home because you look nothing like your photos. (You have gained weight or God forbid have changed your hair color)
On the business of money. Some companies take taxes out of your checks, expect that. If they do not take taxes out, you better prepare for tax time cause you will get hit hard. Set some money aside. You are a business, treat yourself as such.
Do not overbook yourself. Especially if you are female talent. Shoots go longer than expected and you will be late or not make it to the second shoot. This makes you look very bad and will give you a horrible reputation.
These are just a few thoughts. If you want to talk with me more email or call anytime. Until next time… Happy humping!
