San Diego- from www.examiner.com – In a true display of grace and love, Pastor Miles McPherson welcomed porn legend Ron Jeremy to the Rock Church on Sunday.
Sitting side by side, Pastor Miles, Ron Jeremy, and Pastor Craig Gross of XXX Church, amicably conversed about God and how crucial it is for followers of Christ to live out and show the love of Christ to others, ESPECIALLY if those “others” are not those whom society would necessarily embrace and love.
Unlike “The Great Porn Debate”, which is a long-running debate held across the nation and around the world, pitting Pastor Craig Gross vs Ron Jeremy, Sunday’s event was simply a friendly dialogue and exercise in love.
Drawing upon Jesus’ example in the book of Luke (Chapter 19) in which Jesus announces his intention to visit the notorious tax-collector, Zacchaeus, in his home, Pastor Miles emphasized the importance of Christians going into those places which society may consider “off-limits” and to simply be a light that shines in it Zacchaeus was a wealthy, corrupt, and hated tax collector in the city of Jericho.

Religious individuals of the time were shocked that Jesus would stoop to such a low level by entering the home of such an unsavory, sinful man. To the “religious”, it was simply offensive that Jesus would do such a thing.
But, as Pastor Miles explained in the service, it is EXACTLY these type of individuals whom Jesus came to save, to show his love to AND for whom Jesus was willing to die on that cross.
After Jesus paid Zacchaeus a visit, Zacchaeus was transformed by the love he experienced and said:
“Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Knowing that the tax-collector had sincerely repented of his ways, Jesus then said:
“Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”
Ron Jeremy was wonderful at The Rock Church. He even played “Amazing Grace” on his harmonica. He was gracious and grateful for the love and friendship Pastor Miles, Pastor Craig, and the church demonstrated. Ron seemed right at home and was very open about his religious views, about the questions and the concerns that he has regarding God and Jesus.
As a Jew, Jeremy admits that he and Christians share the same bible, the Old Testament, but graciously joked about “the other part” of the bible Christians believe in, the New Testament.
He confesses he’s still unsure about what exactly to believe. He says it’s still “confusing” to him, altough he readily admitted that there is, in fact, a God. He has no doubts about that. In fact, he said he’s 100% sure that there is a God.
Jokingly, Ron said that one of the things he recommends to others who are also struggling with issues of faith is to pray to Allah, and Moses, and Jesus, and Budha, and anyone else you can think of, “just in case.”
He says, “When you die and go to heaven, one of these guys has to be up there.” He also said that if its Jesus who is in heaven, Ron would ask permission to come back to earth “for at least 5 minutes” in order to punch his rabbi who obviously had it all wrong.
Jeremy also shared a true, personal story in which God clearly demonstrated his grace and mercy. A few years back, Ron, along with a group of friends, were involved in a brutal car accident. Right before the accident, Ron and his friends had been discussing matters of faith and God.
Suddenly, they found themselves careening off of an embankment, the vehicle they were in, turned upside down, coasting past multiple trees (none of which the car hit), only to slowly come to a halt. As they crawled out of the vehicle, removing shattered pieces of glass off of each other, they realized that things should’ve been much worse.
Ron admitted that it was only by the grace of God that they were all able to walk away from the incident, injury free. Not even a scratch on their bodies. No bruises or cuts. To Jeremy, it was an obvious indication of God at work.
To those who may be wondering, “Why in the world would Pastor Miles welcome a porn star into the church?” the answer is quite simple.
Pastor Miles has been leading a 7-week series entitled “Exposed”, the focus of which is to expose NOT the failures, weaknesses, and troubles of celebrities (which we see plastered on magazines on a regular basis), but the way we – as Christian believers – respond to their troubles. Are we quick to judge their behavior and count ourselves better than these troubled celebrities, or are we able to recognize the sin in our own lives and instead feel the same love for them that Jesus has shown us?
If you would like to witness the tremendous power of God at work, Ron Jeremy may be a good place to start. He seems very close to taking that step of finally accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior. If he doesn’t, there are still tons of other examples of people within the porn industry who have taken that step. The following two links are two excellent examples of this. Check them out. You won’t regret it.
