This morning I spoke to Bob from Dane Productions and he gave me great news as an update to all the work he’s trying to do on behalf the Jerry Lewis Telethon, Labor Day weekend. Bob tells me that there’s a stripper named Mona who’s just donated $1,000 on behalf of her two children.
Meanwhile, Bob writes: Spoke to Wankus and Batman on Monday. They were kind enough to plug the MDA telethon this labor day weekend. I really appreciate the support I have been receiving so far. I have a lot of ways for our industry to help out. Clubs can participate, as well as individuals.
My idea for clubs is to donate monies is to hold a “Dance for those who can’t” events, and donate a portion of the proceeds to The Free Speech Coalition to be donated at the telethon. Take the money from your daily cup of Starbucks, your cigarettes, anything we take for granted, and give it to MDA thru the FSC.
So far, the first day, I have 7 confirmed people to work with me [manning phones Labor day weekend], and I thank them and appreciate their kindness. I want to mention their names, and hopefully, with the help of Gene Ross, I can periodically give credit where it is due. The 6 besides myself are Mara Epstein, Elizabeth Vasquez, Marty O’Malley, Batman, Belle D’ Leon, and Devon Michael.
The small amount of money from these items I mentioned above buys valuable research time. $600.00 buys a week of summer camp for one of the kids. For these children, this camp is the highlite of the year for them. What is $600.00 over the next month to a club?
For those of you that know me, I like t-shirts. I buy 2-3 weekly at about $18.00 each, or about $50.00. for this next month, I will not buy any, but instead put the money away, and donate that to MDA.
Now I want to go for the heart. Ladies of our industry, look at yourselves. Beautiful , healthy, able to do everything whether it be in front of a camera or not. The people I want you think about are the victims of neuromuscular diseases. They would do anything just to be able to stand, and unfortunately just feed themselves. Dancers in clubs, I am especially relying on your generosity, and those of management to really come thru for MDA.
Today, I noticed one of the dancers/actresses touting a great buy on clothing. The prices were great. How about taking the money you would spend on 1 pair of stockings, and donating it. I promise, you will not miss the $7.00 or so, and you will be doing something to help out someone who would love to be able just to put on a pair of stockings.
I just thought of something, and I am starting to tear up. Last Friday, those of you at AURA, I am sure you noticed a young man I see all the time at these events. He loves the girls, and he is in a wheelchair, a victim of what we are discussing. All the ladies always make it a point to take pics with him. I always push my girls to do this. His smile lights up the room when this occurs.
Ladies, those of you that were there, please donate something in his honor.
I end this, and Gene for this month, I appreciate your help saying what I believe, and what drives me to continue. If you do this one time, give to these kids, you will be hooked. Forget the industry hang ups, animosity, quarrels, put it aside and join me. I promise you a feeling of great comfort in knowing you did something good to help someone less fortunate. Please come thru for me and help me in this great opportunity we have to promote the good in this industry thru FSC.
I am now going to make copies of this to send out. Thanks for caring and please, please call me. Your support is the key. I end this saying may each day in the year be a good day, may the lord always watch over you, grant you health, and the ability to try and give health to all, be well, and thanks in advance, bob, dane productions.
