Porn Valley- The porn economy being what it is, The Grand Vizier has switched from his beloved Auchincloss cigarettes to Lucky Strikes.
“As soon as things get better, I’ll switch back,” says the Vizier, a tint of delicious irony in his voice, noting that a lot of porners with their heads buried deep in a hole actually believe that DVD sales will pick up in the throes of the current negative cash flow.
Along similar lines, The Vizier says he can’t believe the story he heard earlier in the day.
“Do people read and take notes about what’s going on in the business?” The Vizier wonders.
The Vizier’s story is about Kaytel Distributors in Canada. Kaytel was involved in a very highly publicized pirating case involving Evil Angel who sued Kaytel and took them to court.
“You figure someone might get the hint which makes this all the more astounding,” continues The Vizier.
The Vizier relates the story which concerns a porn scene broker in the Valley who buys and re-sells porn scenes non exclusively. The broker recently sold 600 scenes to Kaytel.
“Kaytel got him for 25 grand,” states The Vizier. “The broker was out of town, and the girl left in charge was naïve. She wrapped up the deal with Kaytel. And she gave them a hard drive with the scenes. Kaytel told her to send the 2257’s, then they would remit the $25,000.
“The broker then got back from Israel visiting his family to discover a disaster of epic proportions which included the fact that UPS somehow “lost” the 2257’s that were provided to Kaytel. And because the 2257’s were “lost,” Kaytel is cancelling a $25,000 deal, claiming that this whole thing is taking too long.
“But Kaytel has his product,” notes The Vizier.
“It’s very strange that these 2257’s turn up missing because UPS has the record of them going on the truck,” adds the Vizier. “What do you think happened?”
“Oh, Kaytel returned the hard drive alright,” adds The Vizier, laughing. “Fuck the hard drive.”
According to The Vizier, the Broker is also out $7,000 for duplicating costs to make the hard drive.
“The broker then asked Kaytel to compensate him at least for those costs. They told him no.”
